Juliette Leroux

Dana 18. prosinca 2017. godine u prostorijama Instituta za političku ekologiju u Zagrebu, u sklopu European Green Activists Training (EGAT) nacionalnog treninga, održano je predavanje Juliette Leroux na temu genetski modificirane hrane (GMO).

Juliette Leroux je voditeljica kampanje o GMO u sklopu grupacije Zelenih/EFA u Europskom parlamentu. Po struci agronom sa specijalizacijom u ekološkim problemima, Leroux je više od 13 godina radila za francusku udrugu organskih poljoprivrednika (FNAB), prvo u području regulativa, a zatim u odjelu za Europsku uniju. Također, bila je zadužena za pitanja GMO-a. Dodatno, bila je članica Ing’OGM odbora pet godina. Trenutno, u sklopu vođenja kampanje u Europskom parlamentu, radi na pitanjima procjene GMO-a, procedure odobravanja GMO-a na razini Europske unije, patentiranja sjemena i tzv. nove tehnike uzgoja.

Na predavanju održanom u Zagrebu, sudionici nacionalnog EGAT treninga dobili su priliku upoznati se s prednostima i nedostacima GMO proizvoda, njihovom utjecaju na okoliš i konzumente, kao i o regulativama o kojima se trenutno raspravlja u Europskom parlamentu.

On December 18th, 2017, a lecture on GMO by Juliette Leroux was held at the facilities of the Institute for Political Ecology in Zagreb, within the activity framework of the European Green Activists Training (EGAT) national training.

Juliette Leroux is the head of the GMO campaign within the Greens / EFA group in the European Parliament. Being an agronomist with specialization in environmental issues, Leroux has worked for the French Farmers’ Association (FNAB) for more than 13 years, first as a regulation officer, then as an European Union officer. She was also in charge of GMO issues. Additionally, she was a member of the Ing’OGM board for five years. Currently, as a part of campaigning in the European Parliament, she is working on the issues of GMO assessment, GMO authorization procedures at EU level, patenting of seeds, and the so-called new breeding techniques.

During the lecture held in Zagreb, participants of the EGAT national training have been given a chance to familiarize themselves with pros and cons of GMO products, their impact on the environment and consumers, and the regulations regarding GMO that are currently being discussed at the European Parliament.
